Ingredients

Scale

For the spice mix:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed herbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the bowls:

  • 2–3 medium potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 500 g (1 lb) lean beef mince or ground beef
  • Iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • Cheese, dairy-free or regular
  • Pickle slices

For the burger sauce:

  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon or yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice from the pickle jar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Make the spice mix by combining the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Wash the potatoes and cut them into chips. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. Place the potato chips in a large mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the spice mix. Toss well to coat.
  4. For oven cooking, arrange the potatoes on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 30–40 minutes, until golden and crispy. Alternatively, air fry for about 20 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  5. While the potatoes cook, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large frying pan over high heat.
  6. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  7. Once the beef is browned, add the remaining spice mix. Continue cooking until the meat is darkened and any excess moisture has evaporated.
  8. Make the burger sauce by combining the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  9. Divide the cooked potatoes among four bowls. Fill the remaining space with shredded iceberg lettuce.
  10. Add the seasoned ground beef, cheese, and pickle slices to each bowl.
  11. Drizzle the burger sauce over the top and serve.
